580ex and shooting Mode

I was reading another post in the "People" section and the person said " Did you shoot with body in manual mode and let E-TTL do it's magic? "....

When I help shoot a wedding I shot in "P" mode ... would it be better to set the camera to "M" as the person suggested in his post?

It would be better if you work to understand the control that "M" gives you.

M allows you to control ambient light with shutter speed, control DOF with aperture, control distance range with ISO. But these three things are interrelated and it takes some practice and experience to get a thorough understanding of how they affect each other.

There is a learning curve, but it's worth the effort.
