can you post the original. I personally would like to see more of the rail than of the space to the right

good start, get down low and shoot at a more extreme angle, that will make the rail seem higher and clean up your background a bit, try to get the light post out of the frame more so it isn't growing out of his back. I like the snow flying a lot, emphasize that.

Personally I don't like photos like this. Background is way too cluttered so you have to really concentrate to see boarder. I know it's not possible to do it different sometimes, but in this case you could still do it, and pretty easy too. Just go a bit lower and shoot up so you get sky for background and not parking place with garbage baskets.

this reply is for everyone who posted.

Ramrock-- I first cropped and then did a quick mask to select the snowboarder and then did some kind of blur filter to the background which is why the background is blurry. i sharpen the snowboarder layer. changed levels a little and saturation and then addded vingetting.

Captain- I love the snow flying up too. i would have gotten a lot lower to the snow but it was very cold that day and i was just messing around

Primoz- I was not trying to get some great photos when i took this picture, i was just kinda messing around and having fun. that said, I hate the background in the photos but i have attached another photo without the cluttered background. but everything you said is correct

did anyone notice the shadow on the right side of the photo, i personally like the shadow. anyway heres one at a lower angle.

Much better for my taste, but tilt is thing I don't like on this one. Sorry it's hard to satisfy me :p

the horticle almost works in this one, I like how you are trying different angles. I love how the color really pop out. again, watch your backgrounds, I want to see the next frame, maybe where he is over to the right a tad bit more, the image is very heavy on the left (which is perfectly fine as long as you tastefully balance the composition)

(I'm starting to sound like my photo teachers, hehe:)

Agree with primoz on this one the tilt is not right IMO! Maybe the same shot without the tilt would work better!

I would look at getting less Depth of field, F22! seems a tad over the top! :) That may make your background OOF and produce a better image.

oh the reason it was f/22 was because of the 430EX flash. the max shutter speed I could get with the flash was 1/250. i used P mode for the 2nd shot but M for the first.

You should try it without a flash (maybe you would need it) with your 50 f/1.8. Then, you could blur the background and probably have high enough shutter with the flash.

You might as well use 100 ISO. You could get a clearer shot and the ability to use a bigger aperture.

some of the shots i took that day used the flash, some not. it was overcast that day for some of the time so i used the flash to fill in the face, etc. 50mm on a crop body it way to long. for snowboarding, you need a wide angle which is why i used my 18-55mm. most of the time, i had the lens at 18mm.
