5D and Canon consumer primes...

Why is there so much fuss about the 5D having to have such good glass, was this a problem when all slr's were 35mm format, or is it that most glass is just not up to standard these days that we are bullied into buying L's?

The demands a digital sensor place on a lens aren't quite the same as those that film does. In addition, with digital it's much easier (and so more common) to examine your image at 100% or 200% magnification, so every little foible is magnified. If you stop looking at 8x10 or 11x14 enlargements you'll find a much wider range of lenses producing "acceptable" results than if you enlarge everything on your computer screen and "pixel peep" at 100%
