The bridge is infamous because the Americans bought the old London Bridge. However, they actually thought they was buying Tower Bridge. London bridge was dismantled and taken to the US, where they got a shock when they realised they had bought the wrong one.
I thought that was what he might have been infering/refering to. But infamous for whom ~ or was that an architectural example of caveat emptor.
I vaguely recall the newspaper reports at the time making the point, that did the buyers really think the UK would allow Tower Bridge to be sold! Also as I recall the London Bridge was being rebuilt and the developers offered the stone facings for sale (Note:- not the complete bridge because that would have been prohibitively expensive to transport) and that is how the whole affair became what it did, I think?!
But heh, it is suppose to look good in its new Arizona home, isn't it
