Hi, I am just redoing my studio and was wondering as to what kind of lighting would be optimal for showing albums and photographs in a studio setting. The original office I had was equipped with halogens and they cast a glare on the albums making them difficult to view. I want to use some kind of diffused lighting that makes the images in the albums look great. BTW I am using Matte prints.

Thanks.

Just a question (or 2). Are you talking about a separate area (i.e. a sitting area, waiting room, etc.) or in the studio itself? If a separate area, then fluorescent fixtures will work (there are all different kinds of diffusers available to reduce glare) just make sure to use daylight corrected tubes. Generally, try to avoid recessed lighting as the small point source of light directly overhead will tend to create glare. The larger surface area of a 2' x 4' fluorescent will tend to diffuse the source (sort of like using a softbox in studio). Even then, you may not want to place the light directly overhead. If you can find a lighting or electrical supply house in your area, it may be helpful to stop in and talk to someone there. Or, stop by a couple studios in your area and see what they use in their viewing areas.

Jim

Yes I am talking about the customer sitting and booking area.
