:) Hi, I am another newbee and I have been looking at some of the brilliant photographs you have all taken - some of the animal and macro shots are stunning.

I am a mere humble point and shot sort of a person  and I have just treated myself to an ixus 850, lovely quality images...... but I am having problems with avi playback on the PC. The video recording seems to be missing information and is jumpy and crackly. Video playback on the camera and tv are perfect.

Sorry to bombard you all like this.

Wondered if anyone has any ideas about what I could be doing wrong?

I assume that AVI playback on the TV is direct from the camera and playback onthe PC is from a file downloaded to the PC> Your PC may not be up to the workload of decoding and displaying the video. If yo're trying to play it back full screen, this can be especially bad, as the video output pretty well matches standard TV output but even the lowest-resolution PC screen has about twice as many pixels as the video will.

Hi Jon,

I really appreciate your reply, thank you. I am using windows XP, with the canon software but still have this problem. It is the same in media player and movie maker. Do you have any suggestions please? Is there some other kind of compatibility/decoding program I could use?

Are you trying to play it back full-screen? What processor is in your PC? Are you running any (ANY!!!) other applications at the same time?
