Who's doing the Great Backyard Bird Count? I am - who else?

Join the Great Backyard Bird Count, February 16-19, 2007. It's fun, it's free, it takes as little as 15 minutes--and it helps the birds.

I am going to try to participate... is it okay to drag along your camera ;), the birds gere should all be out in abundance by friday, we have a big storm with lots of wind coming through tonight and tomorrow, winds gusting around 100kph, that should keep most of them holed up till friday.

Or you can look at it as an opportunity to have an image published by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and/or National Audubon Society, Inc.

That's kind of cool, regardless of compensation.

I WAS really looking forward to doing this in Florida, but circumstances led to me being in Wyoming for longer than expected. Thus, I will be doing the count up here in Jackson. Anybody else from around here doing it?

I'll probably see only these birds: Magpie, Raven, Mallard, Trumpeter Swan, Bald Eagle, Goldeneye.

I am gonna do it from here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I usually do it from my camp in northern Louisiana, but we aren't going up there this weekend, so will be doing it from here in my backyard. Know my count will be way down because it is still downright cold for Louisiana right now.

I went out for 2 separate bird walks today, 2.5 hours total, and submitted 2 lists to the GBBC! Most plentiful bird of the day?

Barrow's Goldeneye - 217 birds!

Least plentiful bird?

Bald Eagle - 2 birds

Tomorrow morning I'm going to Jedediah's for Sourjacks and then it's off to Bradley and Taggert Lakes to do a few more hours of birding. I intend to do at least 25 hours of birding between now and Monday night. Good hunting to all!

Nobody jumped on this thread? Lame.

Interesting birds I saw during the rest of the weekend:

Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, Red Crossbills, Sage Grouse, Pine Siskins, Mtn. Chickadees, Ravens, Mallards, Mergansers, Clark's Nutcrackers...

A GREAT WEEKEND!

I participated on the first day - sent in three photos and one was accepted for the 2007 gallery. Is this a good thing, or was I just lucky?

If it's a good photo then it's a good thing. I guess you'll find out how good if you win the binoculars.

I did all 4 days from my backyard. Mourning Doves being the most plentiful (40) and SS Hawk & Verdin being the lowest count of 1 each. Had the usual Inca Doves, Finches, Sparrows, Juncos, Northerm Mockers, and Yellow-rumped Warblers. On the last day of the count, the YRW came out in full force for me - 12 at once!
