Went to the north Wirral coast today. I knew there had been a Mediterranean Gull knocking around but my hopes weren't high. They're fairly scarce birds here with only a few in this area each winter but I had seen one at a site five miles away the other day (too distant for my 400mm) so you never know. I set up with my 400mm prime and took a few Starling shots. I then threw a bit of bread and amazingly an adult Mediterranean Gull swooped in from nowhere to within touching distance - way to close for the 400mm  Unphased I hurridley changed lenses and then looked out again and it had totally gone. I waited four hours and no sign, oh well it was a lovely day anyway and there's always the next time.

If you don't want that starling shot, I'll take it. Man, I have been trying to get a good shot of one for 4 months now. Seen them 3 times, got some shots, but nothing even close to that. Pest they may be, but they are gorgeous. :)

Mitch, you should come down to my back deck in Chicago. I have 5 or 6 Starlings at the feeders any time I look out there. Not as bad as the Pigeons though. Yesterday, we had 3 Cardinals (FFM), a Downey Woodpecker, House Sparrows, Finches, a Grackle, Pigeons and a Coopers Hawk (circling around) all at once. I live in the city too.
