Cheat Sheets

Ok, I know they sell them, but I'm really not up for spening my cash on them. Has anyone here made thier own and/or cared to share it? I completely agree that a person should know their camera in and out, but I am so new to this stuff and there's a crap load to learn - maybe some cheat sheets will help me learn.

I am looking at making my own and it's been a slow process. Between working 60hrs a week, going to school fulltime (business), working on a coaching certification and coaching kids (volunteer) - there is little time so I was hoping someone might have something helpful.

And PLEASE don't scan and post any copywritten material. I'm looking for "original shareware" documents.

Thanks in advance!

What about the little pocket guides that come with the camera? Thats pretty easy to read, if you need it.

i have got a little one that lives in my camera bag
the first page just reminds me to check ISO, Mode, drive speed etc before i start
inside it has basic information about different sorts of shooting, how to set basic things like register an AF point for the 1 series, speedlite instructions, setting custom WB etc
the back page has error codes and what colour filters do to B+W images

If you're talking about the book, I'm talking about breaking that down into quick reference.

If you're talking about that fold out thing - that's the biggest waste of paper I've seen.

I have seen cheat sheets advertised in several places but never knew what they were. You can buy them on e-Bay, I think. Seems like a waste of money, but if you're new to photography or brand new to digital, it could be a help.

I bought a cheat sheet a couple of years ago and found it to be a total waste. They crammed so much info that was useless, I was better off just carrying the manual. I know what you mean though and there certainly is a demand for good ones, I just don't know of any that are good!

I'm working on making one for me too, but it's is proving to be difficult. In addition to my book that came with the camera (most used) I have also acquired 6 other books, I am kind of reading them all and then puttting the most important info from each into category headings. (At least that is my plan anyway....)

If I were you I'd make my own. That way it would only include the stuff that I thought was important. And over time, as certain things started to embed themselves in my brain, I could edit the cheat sheet to ensure it is still relevant and (sorry) focussed.

Thats what I did and each time I modified it, it became smaller and eventually I didn't need it any more. Now if I ever take up portrait photography, I will start another.

i do tend to get to the point that i don't need it anymore, there's just a lot of rules and functions to learn.

In my opinion these are worth the few bucks you pay for the convenience and the quick information, especially as a beginner. If you find yourself thoroughly familiar with all the information these contain...well, then my guess is you have progressed past the true "beginner" status.

Of course, making your own would be the best...but some of us would rather be spending that time playing with the camera rather than making quick reference guides. :)
