A70 Memory Card Problems

Hello,

I've got a question I'm hoping someone can answer. I've got an A70, and I'm wondering if there are any known issues with using larger capacity CF cards.

I have been using a 256Mb Sandisk Ultra since I bought the camera, with absolutely no issues. However, I recently purchased a 2Gb CF from a local computer wholesale outlet. When I tried the card in the camera, everything was fine - pictures recorded and were viewable on the camera. When I went to transfer the pictures to my PC, using a USB connected Lexar reader, the pictures, when displayed at all, were corrupted :(

Putting the card back in the camera and trying to read the pictures generated a memory card error message on the camera. I tried reformatting the card, but with no success.

I have since exchanged the original card, but I'm experiencing the same issue with the 2nd card. :(

Any ideas?

IIRC, 2 GB would be about the max. capacity you can use in the A70 since it only supports FAT16 file systems. Can you, from a 2 GB card formatted in the camera (or as FAT16 in the computer), transfer files direct from the camera via USB; not using the card reader? What brand is the 2 GB card (this isn't necessarily a brand problem, but let's find out all the information we can)?

Jon,

I haven't tried formatting the card and moving files directly yet. Took the card to work for a co-worker to try tonight.

Card is a generic one (store brand)from Micro Center Computer outlet while on business in Michigan.

Will try both a direct connection and a format in FAT16 once I get the card back

Just a quick update - my co-worker tried the CF card on his cameras / PC and had the same issues. :( Sounds like the card is probably bad - but I'll try a FAT format and direct transfer from the camera first.

If that doesn't work, it's going back, and I'll repalced it with a 1Gb Sandisk...
