I am still playing with it. Sometimes it does wonders. # 3 was slightly out of focus.

Hey Samir, I see our boy is still doing good. He looks great. :)

I love the effect in #1 and that perfect background in #3. What does this new software do? Never heard of it.

Sorry about that. I uploaded it from PN to Flickr, and then linked to here. It was lost somewhere. I am at work now, so I can't give you exact data, but they are taken with 20D, 70-200mm 2.8L at 400-800 ISO, f4-5.6 and 1/800-1/1250 sec. .

Actually #1 was the other, bigger egret. See, that one has both legs. And DxO (elite version) is RAW converter that contains data about certain cameras and lenses. It uses it to fix noise by the sensor and ISO, geometry, softness chromatic aberration using data for specific lens and focussing distance. Very interesting stuff. I had mixed result with it, but it did something really spectacular with #3 which was little soft originally. Negative points are speed on my G4 and the high price $299.00.

Thanks for the exif info. I forgot to say, these are beautiful images, pics #2 and #3 have a most unique, dreamy background color. :) I will have to do a google search to look up your software because I have never heard of it.

It would be interesting to see #3 - before and after. To get a better idea of the change it made. It sounds interesting.

Because I did manually all kind of stuff in DxO converter that is not available in CS2, I decided to convert other image with totally automatic settings WITHOUT ANY USM. This would be fair comparison where you see 'lens softness correction', chromatic aberation and vigneting based on this specific lens (ef-s 17-55mm f2.8) data. Highlight recovery and DxO Lighting also by default enabled in DxO software. Please be advised that I am not very familiar with this new software, so the best you can do, if you are interested, is to download demo and try for yourself. These are 100% crops from each.

So what have you concluded about DxO? Will you be purchasing it?

I tried both DXO and Lightroom. Both are great and each have its advantages.
Lightroom is awesome for a first version. The workflow is superior. However I am still favoring DXO. It does a better job with pics given its many more options and their batch processing is the best.
What is unique to DXO that I love alot is:
1) it corrects for flaws based on your specific camera body and specific lenses.
2) Also it can batch process your entire RAW files with one push of a button and its default settings does a superior job at it. Great when you have zero time to process.
3) Best of all, DXO has the only "Volume Anamorphosis" correction i know of.
With my Canon s10-22mm wide angle, it corrects the proportions so people/objects at the picture edges do not appear fat, and people at a further distance do not appear small. This feature alone is priceless for me.
