A lot has changed in Durham since North Carolina Central University last had a baseball team. But the school is going Division 1, and as part of the move, baseball is coming back. It's going to be a fun ride too. They will be taking over the old Durham Ballpark which was made famous in the movie Bull Durham and was home to some of the most notable Negro League teams of the past century. Now the old stadium is being refurbished, Minor league baseball has expressed interst in make it their new hall of fame, it will be the training center for officials of Minor League baseball... so the old stadium is roaring back to life.

This season is actually being playing in the current Durham Bulls park, itself going through a major renovation along with the buildings around it. It was bone chilling cold, but fun to be part of this event.

Here is a sampling of the days activities....

Mark - Splendid! Assuming these are but a small sample of the entire shoot and the ratio of historic stuff is somewhat proportional to the action stuff that you showed us here, I think you did outstanding work for them. #1 obviously isn't posed, you got faces of both managers and that's very difficult to do when lineups are being handed in. The angle you shot #2 from makes it a perfect composition - love the mascot, base and baseline in the frame. Excellent action shots and they're perfectly framed plus the last shot is a classic with the B&W conversion perfect for the composition. You've written your name into the history books that cover this event and you can be very proud of your work.

Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.

very nice, Mark. looks like you've got dugout access. your photos emphasize the personal size and cozy feel of the Bull's park, compared to a major leaguer.

Croasdail, you have some very good shots going on there. But I think the dugout shot is the best...I think that would look good framed. IMO, you captured the type of ambiance of the old '30s-'40s type of historical baseball pictures, but of course with the modern uniforms and bats;) .

Great work as usual Mark. I might try to make it to the ballpark and snap a few. Must have been cold out there as well.....
