Who knows of a good place to buy a film type lcd protector?I'm not sure about the ones on ebay as most of them come from out of the country.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. The screen is already behind a replaceable plastic protector which is very durable in its own right.

Is the screen cover really replaceable? that's cool if it is, but want to clarify that fact.

otherwise...I bought a pack of Fellowes WriteRight 'Micro-Thin Screen Protectors' from the local Office Depot. They act like friction stickers and go on and off with ease.

Any office supply and/or electronics store would carry these, as their really designed for PDA's...but their ver durrable and don't distort the screen. They come in different sizes depending on the PDA your buying for...so i bought the biggest ones and simply cut them in half...fits perfectly on my 400d.

I got mine from Best Buy and Ive used only two, the second one lasting nearly as long as Ive had the camera (4months). Although it doesnt allow you to look at the LCD with a clear pic, I like them. I dont use the lcd to judge sharpness unless of course its seriously blurred, then it wouldnt matter if I had a protector on it.

The shield zone kit also has one for the top LCD and I'm to lazy to cut my own. I could instead spend that time posting;)

You can replace the LCD screen cover on Canon DSLR's. It takes a suction cup to remove it. The cover is held down by an adhesive strip all the way around it. A new one costs less than $20 according to the latest information I have seen.

You gain virtually nothing by adding a thin layer of "protector" to the original LCD cover. The original is so tough that if you hit it with something hard enough to scratch it, you would cut right through a "PDA protector" layer that you added.

My 20D's LCD cover has zero scratches and I never really do anything to prevent dings and scratches on it. In fact, I usually just wipe the sweat, dust, and nose grease off with anything that is available including the heel of my hand or my shirt.

Rather than repeat what Skip said, I'll just quote it. 100%. My D60 screen has no scratches after 4+ years of rattling around loose in bags or against a big metal belt buckle. The 20D and 5D are similarly unmarred at the current stages oftheir somewhat shorter lives to date. And when I do use a screen protector (on my PDA), I find that image quality, contrast and sharpness suffer.
