For those of you who have a 35L a 50 F1.4, which do you use most? Im thinking of getting rid of the 50 and get a 35L as a replacement, will I miss the focal length?

Only you can answer that yourself. If you can live without 40-70mm not inclusive, then yeah, why not?

This is a good question. I just purchased the 35 1.4 and went on vacation last week and shot almost exclusively with the 35 (though I did take a day to shoot with the 135). I did not take my 50 1.4 (Sigma). Despite a slight front focusing issue with the 35, which I'll fix tonight, I'm not entirely convinced that I could live without my 50. For some reason, even though its only 15mm in focal length, the field of view seems much large on the 35. In a couple of instances I would have preferred my 50. That being said, I do have to make a concerted effort to go with both the 35 and the 50 exclusively to be able to provide some more definitive advice (with supporting evidence) rather than just 'feelings.' I do love the 35, though. I really want to rent the 85 1.2 as the 135 is just a big long for me.

Film, suckers.

nice capture... how would you go about getting that one?

(by the way, it looks like a WB issue bringing the lighting towards green.

x2. Great stuff as usual Helena. Tons of great texture in those shots. Looks like a cool place.

Thanks, it is! Plan to go back this fall with some photography friends. (Went with my not-so-interested-in-photography-but-very-patient fiancé this time.)

This lens has been left in the bag lately (Got a 50 1.2). It finally got a "spin" the other day, though. Excuse the pun.

Cant say with the 50 1.4, but I have the 35L and 50L and wouldn't get rid of either one. They both have their uses and are completely different lenses, IMHO.

35L is my go-to walk around lens. I could go on a vacation with just that lens on my 5D and be perfectly happy. But I rarely use the 35 at weddings, the 50 has the edge on FL and I find it much more useful for event coverage and portraits.

I just sold my Sigma 50 1.4 as I am not using it now that I have the 35L 1.4.

I found that when I wanted to use the Sigma 50, I just put the Canon 35 on instead. I'm not flaming or promoting either lens, but the respective copies that I owned proved the Canon to have much better AF, improved colors, contrast, and sharpness. Bokeh on both is splendid but I prefer the Canon here too. I just feel more confident that I will get a shot worth keeping with the 35 L 1.4. That is not to say that I dislike the 50mm focal length, which is why I kept my 50 1.8 II :)
