Because the birds would have to be so close? I think that's the point of the whole 'people were throwing bread at them' part, i.e. they were flying close.

This is sick, amazing shot really! Your patience paid off, I am not sure if this is my favorite shot or the one with the hawk on the skyscraper window with Hong Kong behind it.
