Thanks Adam :) I just used a couple of tungsten lights, no flash. One 200w bulb as a main light fired through a diffuser and the other two with 100w coloured bulbs to create a bit of interest so all pretty make do.

Are they both processed the same way? If so, the 35L makes the image POP so much more than the 85/1.8, and I wouldn't have expected the difference to be so great. And I'm assuming the focus point is on the magazine in both photos.

They were processed similarly. By no means exact and the photos were taken about 2 hours apart. A few other things changed. It's by no means a scientific test, however, the 35L beats the 85 1.8 in every category minus focus speed.
