Hi guys. I am just entering the world of photography. I have been using a basic digital camera Panasonic Lumix FX-7 just to take basic pictures for fun and play around.

I recently got really surprise out of nowhere gift, a Canon Rebel XTi w/ the 18~55 lenses. just wow!

But I feel really bad because I don't really need such a powerful tool. Since its here and not really returning anywhere, I might as well try my best to make use of it. Any tips from seasoned users here? Things I shouldn't ask and thereby avoiding ignorance? hehehe ;)

First thing I would do is to read the manual to become familiar with the camera and what it can do. Oh, and start taking photos with it of course :)

As for the forums, reading through the stickies is a good idea as many questions are answered in them. Lots of great information in the stickies.

I would infact not to recomend you reading the manual. play with it. discover your camera. if you think you had finish discovering, read your manual. you will be surprised. *do check the manual if you have any question and caution.

Enjoy the camera. You are about to go from "playing around" as you put it, to getting creative. A great book to get you started is Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Well written, easy to understand and costs less than $20 at Amazon.com
You found the best forum on the net for new photographers (and old ones to)
