Keep 580ex and get sunpaks for wireless slaves?

I have my 580ex that i have had for a few months now. I like the flash alot but i am now going to try and get a off camera flash set-up. I have been thinking of just using my 580 for normal photography on the camera and getting 2 sunpak 544's for skate photog off camera. I have read a lot about how much trouble the speedlite flashes are outdoors. I could get two sunpak 544's, 2 tripods, an ebay wireless slave trigger/reciever, and batteries for about $500. I will eventually get some PW's and another sunpak for a 3 flash setup. Do you guys think that this sounds like a good package for recreational skate photog? would I need a light meter? Any other thoughts?Thanks for the knowledge!

I think it'll work fine, with the understanding that the cheap radio triggers aren't perfect.
The radio transmitter could also be connected to your camera's PC socket, allowing you to continue to use the 580EX on the hotshoe at the same time.

I light meter might help in some situations, but I wouldn't bother with it. The Sunpak will have a distance scale on the back to help you dial in the power.

That sounds good! i didnt realize i could use the 580 on also. I do realize that they are cheap triggers but I just want something to mess around with until i have the money for PW's also. Thanks for the input Curtis!
