I stumbled across this forum as I was researching cameras and lens prior to my purchase. What a great resource and wealth of useful information! It's nice to see that everyone is civil, a rarity on the net forums these days. Just wanted to post a few shots that I took the first day in possession of XTi/400D. All images taken with the kit lens - I've never shot anything with a DSLR prior to these, a NOOB in every sense of the word.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum! It's great to see people jump right in and show photos with their first post! I must say that you've got some impressive shots in this series...

I really like #1, #2, and #4. #5 looks a little blown, IMO

 but you definitely have an eye for it!

I think that it's brilliant that you've chosen such a variety of shots.

You have a great eye. I can see that this is not your first camera, just your first D-SLR.
Good stuff!

Welcome!

Wow, thanks for such wonderful feedback :) Not my first camera, but by far the first camera that actually makes me pay more attention to what I'm doing. I just got the 17-55 in the mail today, can't wait to try more shots with that beast. :)

I ran your 4th photo through the Lomo 2 action I created (in my sig) and it turned out really cool. Again ... good stuff!

Welcome to POTN!

Some very nice shots here! You're definitely only a NOOB with DSLR - certainly not with photography. I find a lot of interest in each of these shots! They're so pleasing to look at. I agree that #5 is a little blown out where the window is. It bleeds into the subjects hair. And #1 has some distracting objects (pool cues?) in the upper right corner. They sort of conflict with the lines of the guitar strings.

Keep shooting!!

Thanks for all the constructive advice... cleaning the dust off the guitar brings up a great deal of guilt not associated with photography at all ;)

I have such a passion for music. (play acoustic guitar, bass - have 4 and 5 string, electric guitar, violin, cello and mess with the piano every now and then). Don't take my crtisism to heart....... :D
