Hey all,

I went out and bought some cheap worklights with Halogen lamps, any tips how can i use them in good usage?
I will try to find a softbox to use with but first i should know how to be careful as i am sure most of you tried that before and found it is very hot and heat with some gas smoke i think (i tried only one yet), so i don't know how to use these in safe way and good way for good results as much as i can if possible.

Tareq

Build a cheap diffuser with pvc pipe and shoot through white fabric. That way you can keep the lights a safe distance.

Hi Tareq,

This has been asked a lot and although I can honestly say I was one that tried it, I highly recommend you don't do it. Those halogen worklights are meant for outdoor use and get very very (one more) VERY hot. They will torch any backgrounds, clothings, paper, ripstop quickly and easily, and they will severely burn anyone that touches them. I would discourage you from using them.

I know it is very hot and i even touched it behind that glas and i can fry any chicken or eggs easily, but just i wish if i can use it just for emergency and i keep it far from people but use diffuser with it and so, i can stay close to it with its heat for very short time, so if it is little far and diffused it may get good light to try, and i got one with 500w which is hot enough, and one 100w, less power and less heat i think but still i will them in a proper way and sure i will turn them on for short time to take shots and then turn them off, sure i can't keep them on all the time with that heat, but don't worry, it will not harm anything that much or fast, just i have to keep it away and covered with special materials to absorb that heat and diffuse the bright light then it will be all fine i hope.
