It seems like there’s a parallel between the camera and car market. Time was when you couldn’t see the paintwork on the back of a car for letters and numbers. Gti, 16v, Turbo, Tdi, LX, GLX, Ghia etc. etc.

Cameras and lenses seem to be going the same way so… what have you got? How many letters?

I’ll start with the gloriously be-lettered

Tamron SP AF ASPHERICAL XR Di LD (IF) 28-75mm 1:2.8 MACRO

(if they wanted to call it anything longer they would have needed to make the lens bigger and it sounds good for at least 150mph  ) but I am sure there are longer examples out there…

Actually, I work on computer networks. You want some acronyms?

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

So do I and NO; it's the weekend. I only do motor-racing at the weekends. ;)

Good answer. :)

And you should see the acronyms that the US government can come up with - plus they expect everyone to be innately familiar with them.

Acronyms suck, but it is far more efficient.

One day a friend and I were playing pool/billiards. We were having a good old time talking about work - both of us are in the computer field, and computers are still one of our hobbies.

After 2 hours the guys at the next table couldn't take it any more.

"You know, " one said to us, "You guys haven't spoken a word of English all day."

Canon is not without sin here,. "EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM"

Some acronyms sound cool though,. like "RAID ZERO"

But by far the worst ones I have heard were created by the US DOD (dept of Defense)

They have at least three totally different meanings for MAD,. (and that does not include the one about drunk driving... )
