I have read so many threads I cant stand it ,,,, I have some speedotron lights I traded for and need to sync them without blowing up my 20d ...can I just hook up a synk cord the speedotrons take 65 volts to fire best I can tell . is that a safe voltage ...I have seen it can take 250 volts safe and have seen 12 volts .... my head is spinning...thanks in advance

MEASURE the voltage from the Speedotron flash unit(s). Use a DC voltmeter and measure from the center pin of the PC cord connector (the end that would connect to the camera) to the shell of the connector.

If you happen to short circuit the center pin to the shell, the flash will go off, but that shouldn't be a problem as long as you are not touching the bare ends of the meter's test probes. Use the insulated handles of the test probes.

What you need to be reading is the instruction manual for your 20D (page 98 ), which states a 250v limit on the PC socket. No specific voltage limit is listed for the hotshoe (which is the cause of much confusion and speculation), but that's not your worry here.

70 volts connected to the PC socket is not a problem.
