I went to the 5D from the 20D and have not regretted it. The FF is a whole new ball game. I missed film.

I made the move from a 30D to a 5D. I'd love to have the 8.5 fps sometimes, but more than that I wanted full frame. No regrets. I love the 5D.

Have the 30D,, (love it) got it mainly for Lacrosse & nature, then got the 5D (:D Looove It!!!) and am amazed at the IQ:lol: ,, so now the only thing waiting, is to see what happens at PMA,,,, , and hopefully whatever new whizbang MarkIIIN-7D-NR1.3?? whatchamacallit  Canon introduces will send the MkIIN spiralling into affordability (new or used I dont care) and I will replace the 30D with that. :p

That would be the perfect combo, so I voted for the MkII

This is a very, very tough decision. I honestly shoot event type stuff and sports equally as at the high school I work for, there's always a game, school event, etc. It's the full frame on the 5D that is really pulling me in that direction. However, the speed of the mkIIn is attractive as well. There's not much difference in cost either. Maybe I get the 5D...land a couple more gigs then get the mkIIn....(I wish).

Hey that can happen, ya never know. Photography is a flooded market with cameras becoming cheaper and cheaper. Its the photog that really determines the photos, the camera is just the tool to present those photos.

I know that pixel size is different between the 30D & the 5D (30D pixels are slightly smaller). Does anyone know if the sensor on the MkIIN is essentially the same as the 5D, only smaller? Or is it completely different from the other two? I don't think the quality of the sensor on the 5D can be beat.

Since you have 2 30D's and a 20D, I would get the 5D. Full Frame Is Great!!!

man if 1.3x is no longer Canon's roadmap, i'd skip it. Nothing wrong with 1.3x, but its gonna be an oddball in the world of 1.6x and FF. But oh 1DmkII has a sexier ring than a 5D. :D

I like my 5D, I love my 30D and 20D and those are my sports cameras. I want a 1DM2N realy bad and that will be my next camera or what ever comes out next. I love my 5D, in the studio and non sports the 5D will work tons better then the 1DM2N

Neither. What I want is a 12 mp version of the 30D that has the weather sealing, auto focus and frames per second of the 1D. (That is close to the specs for a Nikon D2X - when is Canon going to get competitive?) That would be my ideal camera. Full frame is a less than ideal size for a digital camera using a 35 mm len mount. The back of the lens is too close to the sensor to be ideal for a full 35 mm film size image with a digital sensor.

I'm not completely sure I understand. A crop factor of 1.6 is ok if they make the pixel size smaller and pack more of them into the same space? I would think noise at moderate to high ISOs would become a serious problem. I would also think that dynamic range would suffer. But, I'm not an engineer.

I would have to go with the 1dmkIIn most people are touting the FF of the 5D as a plus but if you shoot sports it's not as you have now lessened the power of your lenses and 3fps is just too slow that was the big killer for me with the 5D. I think the 5D is a great landscape and studio camera. Set one of your 30D's drive to continus but not high and shoot a moving subject and see how much action you missed between frames that is what you will get with the 5D. Bottom line the 1D is a Pro camera and is built and sealed as such. I used to have a 1V hs film camera and I never thought much about the weather seeling until I was shooting an event and someone bumbed into me and spilled a drink on it, wiped it off and kept going you never know when that sealing will come in handy

Im not sure if I have or someone else has asked but what sport(s) do you shoot? Because if you shoot just one sport then youll know that the season is only so long. Sports are seasonal, portraits, events, and weddings (not as much, often taken when the weather is very nice) can be shot year round.

To me the 8.5 fps is more important than FF. Go for the 1DN, it will easily handle anything you want to shoot.

Even i have 1Dsmk2 and 5D i never use them for sports or actions, and i know many photojournalists or photographers here using 1Dmk2 for all events in UAE beside nikon, so if that 5D or 1Dsmk2 are the best for everything then they will use them for sure, and i read that 1dmk2N is the best for actions and reportage, so what is Reportage means?
