I have a wee question - why isn't there a choice in the poll for the 30D?

I spent considerable time assessing the cost/benefit of 1.6 crop versus full frame, and concluded for my use, the 30D and its "lesser" successors would be the best choice.

It still is. I don't want/need one of the "big boys", so I purposely chose the 30D, and I'm not going to second guess myself.

So buying (or voting) for something that costs a lot more, that doesn't really add much to what I want to do, seems pointless.

Because as the original poster, I own two 30Ds and a 20D. Read the OP again and you'll have a better understanding as to why the 30D isn't included in the poll.

I read your original post - you can't make up your mind.

I learned a trick years ago in these situations: Heads is Camera A, Tails is Camera B.

Toss a coin, if you're happy with the result you've made up your mind; if you want to toss the coin again, you again have your result.

If you're still wanting to toss coins - take some more time.

The bottom line is, if you've done the research and know the cameras (it seems obvious that you are quite knowledgeable) then give it some time. Time has a way of solving those difficult decisions.

It works.

Good luck.

Wow, very informative post. Doesn't this mean that, if I have no interest at the wide end, I might want to stay with the 1.6 crop (as on my 20D) and wait for the 40D?

Actually, it's nice to have a little more wide though. The 16-35 is about a 21mm in the field of view, which is not bad. The 70-200 is great on the 1.3 crop. On the 1.6 it gets a little long, at least for bball.

And well, the AF performance on a 1 series is so much better than the 30D's, not to mention the better layout of the AF points.

The camera doesn't make the photographer, of course, but some of that stuff compliments more than others.

I was referring to your comment about why the 30D wasn't on the poll list - because I have two of them.

I posted this to get feedback on both bodies in addition to what's already posted on POTN. This thread has helped...I'm going with the 1D since I'll use it primarily for sports and my 30Ds will handle all other types of photography I shoot.

thanks all for the help!
