Hi all,
I hope I have this in the right forum. Maybe it's a lighting issue but most likely it's just me not knowing how to set up my camera. I built a DIY lightbox with PVC pipe, a bed sheet and white poster board. I found the project on the web somewhere but forget were. I can't get a clean white background. It always comes out yellowish. I have tried positioning the two 75watt spots in various positions and different camera settings. I have done no post processing other than resizing for the forums. Any input is appreciated.

Looks like you need to set your white balance.

Set white balance in camera to tungsten (assumption is you are using tungsten lamps) or shoot RAW and set balance later.

shoot a couple in RAW to see what temp you need to adjust to and then set custom white balance to that. Or just shoot them all in RAW and fix them in post.

If you could post the link (if you find it) to the website where you found a DIY lightbox, i'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.

I would be keen to put together a DIY lightbox too for those occassional eBay "item" photos, etc. I hope you find the link.

Not sure if it's the same one, however there is a guide here http://strobist.blogspot.com …0-macro-photo-studio.html (external link) which works really well

I see in exif data that in the last pic posted you switched to custom WB, did you take a shot of the light box empty and use that as your custom WB setting?

Sorry it took so long to reply, this thread got burried. The first pictures I took I had no idea how to set a custom WB. After researching these forums I have sorta figured it out. I don't remember what I did about the last shot just what I did but yes, I do take a pic of the inside of the box and set it for custom WB. It still turns out horrible yellowish but shot in raw is easier to fix with pp. I am looking to buy a set of gray cards now. Still reading the forums and learning as I go. My pic's are looking much better :)

I first made a light tent from the PVC pipe and bed sheet but have since made one using foam board 5 (20x30 sheets), four 5.5 in spot lights and I like it so much better. Sorry I don't have the link anymore
