Ves, being average or normal scares the heck out of me. An opinion was asked and several responses given. Let us see some ab-normal shots?

I think these are cool too! Never would of thought of doing this!
Shame on all of you "take pictures more normal" people. Photography and normal aren't words that should go together.

I hope that you have been inspired in some, going for the unusual is what I wanted and I am happy that you picked up on this. We can all do the normal/usual shot, being creative is what photography is all about, no?

Thanks Ves!

You are right, responses where given and most people like the "usual" shots. What I wanted to know is which of the unusual/abnormal shots did people like.

Happy to spark some thoughts :-) and provide inspiration. Even if it is not liked.

Thank you. Yes, I was hoping people would pick up on the specifics of which actual zoom effect they liked and not necessarily "are the zoom effects" better than the original. Well done in picking up on this.

Thank you very much everyone.

i like the idea of the zoom.. but the photo has the wheel looking like it goes into the water.. the original looks fantastic. that wheel looks like its going at 100 kmh where as we know it just crawls around.. good work.

maybe try getting the zoom not entering the water.. then it may work..

I prefer the time lapse with no zoom....I personally never was a fan of the zoom effect though. Just one karate-master's opinion

wax off :)

Thanks, it is a difficult zoom shot to take without having the Thames in the way. I can think of no other way of doing it without hitting the water.

Thanks for comments.

First vocal word I've spoken all afternoon was when I opened this thread and saw the first picture. "ah cool!" #1 for me too. I've never seen the London Eye that way. It's great.

excellent idea for a post....all are well executed and my faves are the original, #3 because the effect is strongest and I like the difinitive 'ray lines'.....also love the last shot, lovely lighting. I do think a new wider lens is in order, to avoid the cropping.

I do prefer the original as the zoom halos overpower a lot of interesting detail in the riverside. Is there any way you could zoom it inwards so the effect was there but without loosing so much detail?

Good idea to zoom in - I have never tried that. Whenever I do the zoom thing I get a shake in the shot even with a good tripod. Must have shaky fingers. I do like the idea of #3 and it is well done

Thanks Roger. I went out with this "zoom effect" intention in mind. Amazing how quickly the battery wears down on longish exposures. Luckily I had two. Yeah, I'm thinking of trying out my friends 1.3 crop body. I don't want to get an EF-S lens, like the 10-22. Looking at trying out the 14mm F2.8L too.

Yeah could zoom it in but I think it would have spoilt the inverted V struts which kind of act like a focal point for me. I tried a v-e-r-y slow zoom out which kind of curved the light but my rotation wasn't that constant and looked crappy. Thanks.

Thanks. What tripod do you have, your L lenses will be very stable. I find the Manfrotto 055PROB with the 029 head to be rock solid. Even with "shaky fingers" :-) the camera shouldn't move. Next time, make sure everthing is screwed on tight, especially the camera plate, and give it a go.
