If you have been having problems with Young America jerking you around with your rebate, here is how to solve it. It worked for me and I had my check in full for $690 within a few days.

Wow pretty informative... I hope this really works for those who have problems getting their rebate in a timely manner, or at all.

Maybe if enough folks do this, Canon will do a tap dance on these guys heads and get them to fix their problems. I am composing my letter today even though it is only for $15. After all, it has been 8 months and they have lost stuff several times now. The folks at Canon need to know that their reputations is getting sullied due to their outsourced poor performers.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

This definitely makes sense. I never recieved my $100 rebate check last year from Canon for my 20D. I mean, it's too late now, but I can pretty much tell what probably happened to it. Very informative.

This is why I try to stay away from mail in rebates.

Had a problem with Dell one time. Got Michael Dell's email and sent a complaint. Whalah! Got a hard drive in two days I'd been trying to get for 3 months....

such a shame you have to complain to the top of these corporations these days to get the service you deserve.

I got the "invalid UPC code" after buying the 5D and MR-14EX ringflash due for $630 in rebates. The web service said that I was now receiving a $15 rebate. After calling the Rebate hotline (1-877-862-6870) and selecting options 1 (english) and 0 ("other issues) I was routed to someone who seemed pretty aware of the issue. I gave my address and zip code and she said that the correct check would be sent out in 4 weeks. I explained to her that exceeds the Terms and Conditions defined by Canon and that I would be filling a complaint with the FTC (it's already in the mail). She stated that the period starts when THEY say so - I told her I sent it certified mail and that's complete BS.

It seems the Invalid UPC issues is very common with 5D rebates. After researching it for a few days it seems like if you're willing to spend a few minutes on the phone you can get your rebate. If you don't call in to voice a complaint you get screwed. It only takes a few minutes and they've been aware of the issue since November so don't take squat from them.

This is a criminal act as far as I'm concerned. Young America is already being sued, but this sounds like an issue with Canon (the invalid UPC issue) not Young America. I'm going through with my complaint to the FTC and writing a letter to my state's attorney general's office. Young America is already facing suits in other states.

>>This post<< (external link) reflects exactly what I suspected was the problem. I've been inside a rebate facility (not YA), and I know what type of folks find employment there.

I also called Canon to complain that the rebate co said that they did not have me in their records, in spite of the fact that I sent my paperwork by registered mail and had proof of their receiving it. Strange thing happened, I just received an email, from the rebate guys, saying that they were mailing me a check. When I talked to Canon, I mentioned this forum and that there were many reportes of people complaining about having the rebate delayed or worst. I insisted that they report this issue, I asked to speak to the supervisor. Looks like it worked. If we continue to complain, mybe this squeeky wheel will get some grease.

ahh this sounds so sketchy. I actually can't believe Canon hasn't done much about the rebate company which really irks me, they're supposed to want our business yet they're letting hundreds of our dollars in the hands of people that can scam us.
