would this be any better than the onboard flash?

just wondering if either of these would be any better than the on board flash on my xti, i know they are no 580ex or anything, but i have no money right now after getting the camera amnd a few trinkets and was just curious. im not going to purchse, but was browsing and got wondering

I would think they would be better but about them being compatable with the XTi I am not sure.

Look at the Sigma 500 flash. I think it only runs about $200. If it were me, I'd save my money for a decent flash unit.

thanks guys, like i said im not going to purchase them i was just looking and priceing around and came across them thats all. thanks! i wonder how well they would work for a background flash on a boom?

You won't be able to mix the built-in flash with external flash units of any type. It's either-or, not both.

It was the "background flash on a boom" part of what you had written that made me think that you wanted that as a slaved remote from the flash on the camera.
