Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM

just pulled the trigger on this lens, looking forward to the delivery man knocking on the door any day now
It will be used on my 5d3 and 7d2

My 70-200 arrived yesterday - nice

Took a couple of photos just to try it out - a bit worried, all of them blurred or out of focus at the 200 end. Had IS turned on so the image in the view finder was stationary. Could be pilot error so will give it a good play with over the weekend.

Don't have any issues with my other lens - as I said, may be pilot error on my part, or could be a bad copy?

Suggestions on a post card please

What was your shutter speed? Even with the IS, I still like to shoot over 1/200 at the long end for sharp images. IS does a good job, but if you're pixel peeping, things won't be tack sharp at slower speeds.

I was trying speeds from 1/200 up to 1/600 - Think the auto focus was having problems, the subject may not have had enough contrast to lock onto, but saying that swapping to my 24-105 had no problems shooting the same subject (trees and bushes in this case)

I found that if I had the lens focus set at 3m to infinity and was shooting within the short range 1.2m it would struggle to focus. When I flicked it over to 1.2m to infinity it was beautiful.

First shots with this lens, i know its not a wildlife lens, but i had to have a go at something
