Question about cropping for pano

Hello!

I have an image I want to crop the center out of for a pano type print. I have never done this before so I'm unclear on what I need to do on my end so the printer gets what they need (I'll probably have Mpix do it).

In Lightroom I cropped using an aspect ratio of 3:1 and it looks perfect. However, I got that by just typing in numbers until one looked right. I have no idea if this is something they could work with or not.

So the question is - Is there a certain way I need to go about cropping for a pano print like a 10x20 or 5x15?

I have just never ventured beyond the standard print sizes before so I'm totally unclear on how this type of thing works. Thanks for any info.

Why not ask them?

Firstly, if you want to crop from the center you will need to know where the center is. If you do not know:

• Turn on rulers (CTL-R) if they are not already on
  
• Select the entire canvas (CTL-A)
  
• and drag a guide from the left side. When you get close to the center, it will snap there.
  

• Press 'C' to bring up your crop tool
  
• Put the the dimensions you want to crop to in the Width and Height box
  
• Drag ot the crop box till it is the full height of your image and move it over till the center point snaps to the guide you made in the center.
  
• Without double clicking or pressing enter, drag two more guides to the sides of the crop box and press ESCAPE. You should now have three guides and the proper aspect ratio for the print size you want between the two outer ones.
  
• In the crop options, press the CLEAR button
  
• Now, drag your crop tool again from top corner of the left guide, over the center guide to the bottom corner of the right guide.
  
• Press ENTER to crop you image.

What I'm really wondering though is if I know the final print will be a 5x15 then do I need to crop the original with a certain aspect ratio?

Correct - a 5x15 = 1x3 aspect ratio.

1x3 aspect ratio is OK, but they may not want a file in that form. Which is why I said, "Why not ask them?"

It should be alright, the print size that he is wanting to done, they do.
