I have a quick question about printers. I am looking to buy a decent $300.00 to $400.00 range photo printer. Who makes a decent one in that range? Does anyone have one that they really like and recommend to look at?]

Thanks.

Kevin

The pro 9000 is nice, but how fast do you go through the ink on that and what do they cost?

Epson's new 1400 is $399.99 and is suppose to be a bargain.

I like Epsons myself. I only have one of the cheapo R200's, but it puts out some great images.

I have the older model of the 9000 series, i9100 with pigment based inks and it does a very nice job. I imagine the Pixmas are even better.
As for ink, since each color has it's own cartridge you only have to replace each as it runs out. And they definitely run out at different rates. If you are printing alot of outdoor shots with lots of blue sky, blue will run out quite quickly. I don't know the cost of the dye inks, but my cartridges run about $12 US each. I always keep a spare set on hand so I don't have any downtime.

Seperate Ink all the way! I personally don't have one like this (but I wish i did ) I think it's such a great idea and money saver. What do other people think who have printers with seperate ink cartridges?

I had the old S9000 (I think it came out in 2001) and it was great. I just gave it to my brother and ordered a Pro9000. The ink can get expensive. You can get the Pro9000 for $499 or less now.

I just got the i9100 and so far I really like it. To bad its almost as long as my desk, but oh well. :0)

I think the ink cartridges are like $10 at staples, plus I think they give you $3 back for each cartridge you take in, making the cost $7 plus tax.

I was wondering what your experience is on ink costs per 8x10 with this printer. Is the printer easy on ink or does it drain it pretty fast?
