I used my 580ex today for a chinese new year program. I went through two sets of batterys. I notice the flash was warm by the end of the program. I didn't do any rapid shotting, but I did shoot a lot of picture with flash on. All were wall bounced. Is this bad for the flash?

Current: Canon 40D w/BG-E2N, Canon 30D, Canon 10-22mm, Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS w/EW-83J, Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS, Canon 580EX II, Crumpler 6 Million Bag, and B+W MRC on all my glass.

How many pictures did you take and what kind of batteries did you use?

If you used a diffuser, that takes more charge. After about 200 shots at an event, I will change my set of rechargeable Energizers. I need the flash to recycle quickly. What you are describing is normal, IMO. Look at the shots to make sure the exposures were good. The flash does get hot if you use it like that.

Yep, warm batteries are normal after extensive shooting. Like Suzie, I carry extras so I can switch them out when the recycle time starts to get annoying.
