Strings...

I tried this same shot when I first got the 400D with the kit lens, then tried it with EF-S 17-55 later on... here are the results:

EF-S 17-55 :

I love the first one, the distortion of the strings is very cool.

I like the 1st one better because of the perspective and b/w

Agreed, definitely like the first one more, the strings look great.

Something about the second one, the dust on the guitar distracts me, but I've been up for over 30 hours.

thanks, i myself prefer the second one... there was more setup involved and i'm just too lazy to wipe the dust off the guitar.

I shall be contrarian... I wish the first was in the colors of the second. When you have the ability to see and reveal that delicate color range, you don't need to escape to B&W to build mood and moment into your graphic. Unfortunately the DOF in the second allowed eye stealing forms to remain. For composition and tonal range, #1 wins, but for emotional color... it's sad that you drained it away.

great pictures, i like taking pictures of guitars, they give great pictures.

the second is my fave, just nice to see the colour of the guitar, but the B/W one is striking in its own way
