I thought I would mark reaching 1000 posts with a couple of my own pictures, from our January trip to Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, on the shore of Hudson Bay. One day we travelled west from Churchill, across the Churchill River. Here we have stopped for a break, on a relatively smooth patch of ice. Would you believe that the tides here are 15 feet high - yes, even in the winter, the ice rises and falls 15 feet, and hence is pretty badly broken up (but solid). The vehicle is a vintage 1942 Bombadier.
We had an aborted train trip from Churchill. We had to detrain at Gillam, about 300 miles south of Churchill, because all of the toilets had frozen up. VIA Rail has not yet mastered keeping the holding tanks unfrozen at 40 below. But they kindly arranged to fly us the rest of the way by Calm Air (a lovely name for an airline.)
