Well I ordered a new camera earlier today. Chose to go the film route just for fun. I had got out my old EOS 3000, and was popping off some shots and had a lot of fun doing it. I some how managed to get my hands on 30+ rolls of film recently, and decided I have to use it all. Needless to say my old EOS 3000 is on it's last legs, especially since the spring that holds the flash up broke, and I currently have to hold it down with an elastic band. Well I went on gold ole B and H photo and found a Elan 7E in good condition and ordered it and a the BP-300 battery grip. Can't wait till it arrives! I've wanted that camera since it first came out!

I used to have the Elan 7e with the bp-300, eye control is sweet. It was definitely a step down to go from that to the 300D... it is a great camera! Enjoy!

I believe that Elan 7E is the same as the EOS30? - I picked one up from ebay with the BP-300 for about £45 ($90-95?) - its a great little camera and I shoot about two rolls a month and get them developed and scanned.

I also have an old Canon AV-1 with 50mm and 200mm FD primes, this is great fun to use and delivers superb results considering it's age, and when you're out and about you don't half get some looks from people, one guy said, "blimey mate that's an old camera, I thought it was all digital these days - is it any good?" :-) :-)

Oh... I won't mention the Nikon F100 I still use sometimes...

Yeah film is fun. If I'm outdoors I typically will "borrow" my dad's Nikon FE or his Nikormat and go shooting. My lens selection is a bit lackluster, and I don't have a good compact flash unit for them (I have a huge Braun flash that has to mount on a bracket), basically I have a 28mm, a 35mm, a few 50mms and a 100mm prime that I can choose from for the old Noinks. Actually, not too bad of a selection I guess. My collection for canon is wider range, I can go from 28 to about 300 with a 35mm Canon (cause the EF-S lenses won't work). Plus I have the 580EX flash, which I used along with my old EOS3000 with some great results. The equipment pushed me over the edge for getting a new (to me) Canon Film camera.

To any one that says "What is Film ??" :P I say, this is film:

I know the smoothing is a little over the top, and I did blow the highlights in my processing (new LCD monitor that I won't use for PSing any more :P), but over all I was really really impressed with the quality coming from a camera I bought brand-new 10 years ago for around $300. It's on it's last legs, so the Elan 7E is a welcomed replacement.

It arrived tonight! Now to free up some time to go rattle some rolls off.

I've been toying around with it already and I like it a lot already! Way better than the Digital Rebel for functionality and ease of use..... only problem is this may force my hand at a digital body upgrade too. :S Uh oh....

I love shooting film too. It makes you frame your shots more carefully and with more thoughts. Especially with a fully manual film camera.

mmm.. sooner or later I'll have to buy an EOS film camera too!

aacmckay, did you use a film scanner or just a normal flat bed?

Actually those shots were scanned at the photolab I had them processed at. Not the best quality scans, but for black and white they're fine. Colour ones are usually really lacklustre and hard to deal with.

I do have a flatbed scanner with an attachment for backlighting negatives and slides. It does a decent job at scanning, but I do want to get a highend negative scanner like a Nikon Coolscan at some point.
