A70: retrofitting lenses

We have a vintage Pentax Spotmatic SLR that's been in the family for eons. It has a miriad of lenses and filters, all with screw-in bases of course ..no idea of mounting thread size though.

I would really like to experiment by using these lenses on our Canon A70.

Will they fit the Canon adapter ring (haven't bought one yet)? If not, what can be used to adapt these lenses? ..any aftermarket solutions?

The filters are 49mm so I guess they will not fit the adapter ring (52 mm) ..or maybe they can with some sort of trick also.

Any ideas appreciated.

You cannot attach any SLR style lens to the A70. You can however get a tube adapter ( lensmateonline.com is one such maker ), to attach threaded lens, like 2X telephoto adapters to either 37mm, 52mm, or 58mm depending on the tube adapter you get.

Using SLR Lenses

You can't use an SLR lens on a digital camera unless it takes true interchangeable lenses (like a digital SLR). These SLR lenses are "prime lenses" that actually make an image on the film by themselves. You digicam has a prime lens, the one that's built in. The only lenses you can use are auxillary lenses that are built to work like little telescopes, magnifying or reducing the image size.

A lot of people do use SLR lenses as closeup lenses using a reverse mount that would attach the SLR lens to the camera reversed (tail side out). These camera lenses make excellent magnifyers when used this way. The problem is finding a way to mount them.

I will relegate the the Pentax SLR lenses to the old trusty camera bag and store it for future use ..for the times my A70 ain't working ..like now: third time in for another major repair in these last 4 months. With one month left, I'm sure glad it'$ still on warranty!
