Well, I might be wrong, but since I have couple of sites not related to photography and from my personal experience as a coder and a web surfer in general I can not understand the fascination with flash web sites. Normally "skip intro" is my favorite button/link while visiting a flash site. I am not saying that it is wrong or should not be used, but running couple of e-commerce sites, I had experimented with flash and found that it does distract you visitor from your content, and that is what you really want them to see, right?

If you are interested in optimization and designing sites that are fast and easy to navigate I would recommend http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/ (external link)
but once again, this is just one opinion
