Yeah they look like 500 watt exterior halogen lighting, heat I would imagine would be a problem with those, they get VERY hot, I had the glass explode outwards with some force on one of those before.

mine are 500 watts a piece and they get wicked hot, i have to let them sit for an hour after i use them before i think of picking them up and storing them

How about that for a guess! :-)

Yeah they do get VERY hot, you can hear the metal ticking as they cool, not ideal for this situation, better with CFL lighting.

They are in fact halogens, and yes, they get very hot indeed, but it was what i had lying around at the time. I'm working on a newer "cooler" box this weekend, but i'm having a hard time finding reflectors...eh, i'm sure i'll find something...

My lightbox is basically a PVC piping frame, made from overflow pipe & a white sheet draped over the top, it works great, I have various lights but I usually find that firing the flash up into the sheet at the top gives a good lighting for little items as the light bounces around in there.
