What do you guys think of lenscoats? I see that pro camera gear sells them now (same store that sells the POTN merchandise.)

I am probably going to pick up a 70-200 2.8 IS, and I want to keep the body clean, and to be honest, I hate how it's white.
Here's a link to the various ones they sell for the 70-200 2.8 IS.

I really like Realtree Hardwoods Snow, not sure if it'll attract a lot of attention though like the white lens itself. What do you all think?

I purchased the woodland camo Lenscoat for my 100-400 and find it works pretty well. On the 100-400, parts of the cover don't go all the way around the lens and are held on by double-sided tape. Even though the tape stuck to the lens quite well, the cover didn't adhere to the tape very well. I finally ended up using a combination of the tape and rubber cement to get the cover to stay on. The strip around the focus locking ring has a tendency to roll off when placed in a bag or pouch, but that's a minor annoyance. I'll probably end up taping that on as well.

I've noticed the number of comments and questions I get has diminished since I got the cover.

I think it isn't the color of that baby that draws attention...compared to the average lens...the 70-200 is quite imposing.

Of all the different versions...this one seems to do the best job of making the lens look less like a rocket launcher. http://www.procameragear.com …ath=29_26&products_id=104 (external link)

That's good. You think the realtree hardwoods snow would do the same, or is the whiteness on it itself too big of a distraction?

Let the white shine, it's there for a reason. No, it does not attract dirt.

Besides, with the hood, I bet my 24-70 will attract just as much attention.

If you want to go unnoticed, the small silver P&S is your best bet.. now that really is the Hobbit's Ring!

I checked the site but couldn't find any lenscoats for the Sigma 150-500 lens. Does anyone know if these lenscoats are available for this lens ??

On a related note, Do these coats protect the lens from rain or do they let the water seep through ??

Cheers,

1) They dont cover the whole lens
2) They dont cover the mount
3) They are neoprene

1+2+3 = Not water resistant

I was comtemplating on getting for my 24-70 and the soon to come 70-200 2.8 IS as well but the price of 2 along with shipping puts me off and pend this item in my shopping list.

Only reason i wanted it is to cover the white of the 70-200 with the Black version of lencoats as i find the white too striking even though i love it.

Oh man... to spend or not to...

I got it only to protect the white paint (mine is the woodlands camo). I'm sure it has already saved a few scratches in the 3 months I've had it on the 500.

Lenscoats, are they worth it, and

I bought one for my EF 100-400 L. Are they worth it? Take a $20 bill and flush it down a toilet. That is what you will be doing if you buy one. Save your money. The one I received is poor quality. If I had a sheet neoprene fabric, I think I could have done better.

I have one on my 500,I like it keeps it protected from bangs and knicks . Seems to do well in light rain or drizzle but wouldn't put it in a downpour without a rain cover. Here is a pic.

Does anyone have a picture of their 100-400 with one on and the barrel fully extended?
