An idea for you to try (i cant pull it off)

I was thinking earlier how a long exposure on a subwoofer would look pretty cool. So i tried it earlier with my small pc surround sub and well, it looks pants. I couldnt pull it off at all, so i was wondering if any of you more experienced photographers and even relatative new comers like myself would give it ago and see what you can get?
Unfortunatly out of frustration i deleted the pictures so i can't post them !
I wasnt too sure if i wanted a long exposure or a picture freezing the sub whilst expanded or contracted.
Food for thought maybe?

I tried this the other day on my cinema system in the room but it looked pants and major out of focus, perhaps a slower beat may have helped but it was late and I have neigbors lol

I guess the American equivalent would be "Looks shorts!" or "That's shorts!" hmmm..don't think this phrase travels well as you might say

The American equivalent I think would usually be "looks like crap"

Edit to stay mildly on topic; I'd try the shot but my woofer has a grille that doesn't come off

Can't try the shot either as my sub is a downward facing enclosed type.

Building on an idea... play a continuous 20hz or 40hz (depending on your sub) tone and then not only shoot a long exposure but also try to time it so you pop a flash when the cone is at Xmax! flash would show it locked in it's furthest "out" position with blur trailing back to it's furthest "in" position.

ps, if you played a 20hz or 40hz tone remember that a 1 second exposure would be enough as that stands for 20 times a second or 40 times a second.

I've got a couple subs, so I will try to give it a go tomorrow.

When the sub is off, take a few slow shots in manual to get get the correct exposure, then repeat with the sub switched on?

4 second exposure at ISO400 at about 18hz.

did you use the flash?

Nope, no flash, just a small side light. It would be really difficult to time the shot to capture the furthest excursions.

not as cool as I would have thought, maybe put into better context?
