One might try using a stroboptic flash setting. That may work.

i've seen subwoofers with dance type strobe lights synch'd up to make the sub look like it took a few seconds to move all the way in and out. i bet you could take a photo of that and get it to look like it's at Xmax.

That photo is a lot better result than i managed. I'll give it another shot over the weekend :)! Don't want to upset the neighbours too much lol.

That example shot looked pretty good to me.

It might also look pretty good if the speaker was on it's back (firing upward) and you put some small particles in the cone (polystyrene beads or something like that) and take a shot of them bouncing around.
