"The UK Government is about to propose restrictions on photography in public places which could make street photography and documentary photography against the law. These proposed changes to the law could result inphotographers having to apply for ID cards in order to take pictures in apublic places."

There is a petition to try and stop this (for British citizens only)

There is a story and experience to go with that signature, all ended up happy, but it could have been bad.

So they'll somehow make so the the Brits cannot shoot in public places, but all the tourists still can shoot?

Or the bobbies will ask people all for their cards, and stop the Brits who do not have the cards, but not stop the tourists who do not have the cards?

Is this really all a skit for Benny Hill or for Monte Python???

Difficult to find much info on it -google bring little up

It is probably a knee jerk to concernes about taking pic of kids in public, so...solution.. stop all photgrahers (except those that pay for the privilege)from taking any pics

makes perfect sense:rolleyes: , bit like saying stop all drivers (except police and taxis) using cars because some people drive badly.

Either way it is out of order IMO

All this talk of how great it is to live in the "free world" and now you cant even take pictures outside? I think we've (as a society) lost touch with the bigger picture (no pun intended) here.

It sounds like the government sponsor of the proposal came home to have his spouse complain about "the pervert in the park who was taking pictures of my bum!" (actually, the beautiful blooms on the flowers nearby)

For goodness sake you lot, what's wrong with having an ID card! What are you scared of?

I live in California. So I have a way to get my card, fast, without waiting endlessly for it in queue, or waiting for it to arrive at my hotel before my holiday ends?! And if I shoot without it, the bobbies are going to run me in and fine me?
