Hehe, up here in Canada, the 50mm 1.8 II is as abundant as maple syrup, hockey players, and taxes.

Tis true. I stopped by Lozeau last Friday and they had just recieved a 1/2 dozen of them. Grabbed one right away. Found a really neat screw in lens shade as well. Looks rather neat.

But is the Canadian 50mm 1.8 as good as the Canadian heathcare plan?

Yup. About the same.

Funny, american govt has been throwing out propoganda about how bad the canadian healthcare system is lately, even going to far as to say it's "bankrupted the country", and "cheap drugs is all they have". Funny since canada is in better economic shape than the us.
It reminds me alot of how the russians supposedly used propoganda to put down...
but then again, it's the wrong forum for this isn't it?

Back to the lense. The difference between the Canadian and the US lenses is the US lenses are made of unobtainium. :)

Yup, I heard those exact quotes from some american politicians on the radio on friday.
But yes, if you need anything major done it's not a good situation. But then again, I know people in the us that put off operations because they can't afford it.

Where1, that's too funny :)

Whearas in Canada people wait in line for operations they need... My Grandpa has *NEEDED* emergency back surgery for almost 5 months now, and he's in queue to get one... At least here your insurance company would rather press the process along than face paying out millions in life insurance...

That is if you are lucky enough to have insurance ;)

But seriously, my lens can beat up your lens!

I had several items, including 50mm on order (backordered) with B&H. Yesterday, finally, a LARGE box arrived with UPS. :D Of course, I was hoping that 50mm was in it. I guess, you can understand my excitement. Well, the box contained: 1(one) 52mm SHMC UV filter, 1(one) issue of Photoshop magazine (a free gif, never ordered that) and ... lots of foam  Next time may be ...

Why don't you order it online from Canada. It's a little more money, but then you wouldnt have to wait.
I (and many others) HIGHLY recommend Simon's Cameras in Montreal, http://simonscameras.com (external link). Best customer service I've ever had, and I bu ALOT online. I think the price is equivalent to about $95US.

Also, Camera Canada is very good, http://www.cameracanada.com (external link).
They will usually match or beat any price in Canada. Just drop them an email.
Also, the warranty is applicable in both the USA and Canada.

The 50mm 1.8 II is in stock at both places, and as mentioned, this lens is very abundant in Canada.

Thanks for a suggestion. I will do that if it will take too long for B&H to get it. Actually, it's $25 price difference (the lens is about $70USD here). In addition, shipping from Canada to the US can take very long time. Once, I had to wait about 2 weeks till the package arrived.
