It will be First come, first served.... but the people on that list will receive an "early notice." This is what I was told.

As far as the number of people on the list, I think we are looking at a few thousand, but certainly not millions.

I spoke to a person at B&H this morning, and he said they will not accept pre-orders until they've received the first shipment. The first ones will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis (like I really believe that:rolleyes:). He said they will take pre paid orders against future shipments after that.

My contact at Samy's told me it was definitely going to be early June. I don't particularly believe him, either.

Just FYIm this is EXACTLY how they have handled this in the past with the 1D MkII 20D and 1Ds MkII at least..
I got both my 1D and 20D from b7h from there first shipments of each and in both cases pre-orders were not taken.

Adorama is taking pre-orders FYI

The guy on eBay I was talking about with ten Mark III's has just had ALL of his listing removed! I emailed him about it and he actually replied that he has the cameras and he will straighten things out with eBay. I've had two people from eBay contacting me about the "incident" and thanking me for giving them a heads up. One guy, a lawyer in the Mid-West is now dealing with PayPal and Ammex (credit card, never heard of it) since he actually did "buy" a Mark III from the seller and found out within an hour of the "issues". It will be interesting to see how PayPal and his credit card company handle things. I've always wondered how PayPal backs their custmoers in such situations. Sorry if I am boring you all, but this seemed of great interest to me because of the knowledge we here have about the M3 and how unlikely it is some guy in the US has ten of them and is selling them with an $1100 discount off MSRP. When I hear back from the lawyer/buyer about how PayPal handles his claim, I'll post the info.

Anyone out there ever buy a bogus purchase off eBay using PayPal and tested their "guarantee?"

Is it possible that NO ONE knows except a handful in the deep bowels of Canon. Ugh, I just had to say deep bowels for some reason.

Just maybe everyone at the different stores are getting their "inside" info from their rep who doesn't really know either except some very rough estimates or internal rumors they hear at the water cooler. It would make as much sense as anything else.

I am extremely disappointed that Canon doesn't have the guts to come out and give a projected release date for the USA. Only thing I can think of is that if they give a date, and don't make it, they will be beat up by everyone. they could at least tell us where they are in the pipeline, give us some idea if they have a finished product yet. Could they so much fear a major flaw at this point that would recall every camera? Sure doesn't seem likely given the testing the pros have given it. FRUSTRATION!

Well, maybe you'll get it with a week or so to spare... that should give you plenty of time to play.

I'm definitely rooting for ya.

Thanks!!! And I have found several others here who have also told me they are in my camp. I like the folks here and their overall attitude with each other (usually, lol.) As I've said, my photo abilities suck, I just want to have the camera in order to have the camera. No logic whatsoever for my desire, except maybe the hype and marketing hit a note with me somehow. I feel sorry for some struggling pro or want to be pro who can't afford it and then looks at some bozo like me that is buying it out of pure desire.

I have though seen multiple statements on this Forum how the equipment won't make one a better photographer of provide better images because it is the photographer not the equipment that makes the difference. True, but only to a point. I thought about the analogy of golf and golf equipment. Pros will always be better than hacks. But in the past twenty years, equipment has improved the game of hacks tremendously!!! And at the same time, allowed the pros to beat up courses so badly that almost all of them are being remodeled to keep up with the equipment. I think this is kind of the same thing. The M3 won't make me better, but I do think that after I am oriented with it, it will allow me to get more keepers. The technology is making it easier to focus, get more shots per second to get the right moment, adjustments in lots of areas that will help both pro and hack quite a bit. So I disagree with the equipment means nothing folks.

Yes, Tiger Woods could play today with 30 year old irons and persimmon woods. He will still kick butt, but not on the PGA tour, at least like he has. The technology allowed him to go further than before, and it will let a hack off the hook with some bad shots that old equipment won't. That doesn't mean that hacks like me can now get an M3 and be better than the folks here that are good, but I certainly think it will "improve my game." I will simply not be as rotten as I am now, even if I am rotten..... $5000 spent will make me less rotten! :D I can be the best outfitted hack on the course, and I don't need anyone trying to make me feel guilty for doing it.

Good luck. The guy from Canon was careful to say USA cameras. I told him I knew some people had them in other countries and he said he cold only speak for USA. I hope yours comes in Friday. The Canon USA guy also said that the first production of the M3 was seriously flawed but that they would dump them overseas, not USA.

Just kidding!!!! ;)

for those in Aust Blatronics.com.au and camerasdirect.com.au are both taking pre-orders on the MarkIII, their price is $5800-$5900 which seems even better than US prices atm, ill be putting down a deposit in the next week or two.

G'day Cider,
I placed an order at the end of March with Camerasdirect, they wanted $1000 deposit. Apparently I am third on the list. A week ago they called to say 2 units at the end of May (just my luck), and another shipment mid June, which I suppose will be me. Hope this info helps.

Did B&H send a special link in their e-mail notice about the 1D MkII and 1Ds MkII? Or does the regular item page just get refreshed when it is available?
