From NorthLight Images:

E-Mail sent by Canon to dealers:

" Delivery will begin on the 21.5.2007
This date is synchronized across the world, hence an earlier delivery will not be possible. I ask you to respect this. All rumours should be ignored, as there have been many reports that certain people already have received a delivery. Please don’t be fooled or pressured by your clients."

So, it looks like May, 21th is the happy date !!! :) :) :)
"Die Auslieferung erfolgt ab dem 21.5.2007.
Dieser Termin ist weltweit harmonisiert, daher kann eine frühere Auslieferung nicht erfolgen. Ich bitte dies zubeachten. Alle Grüchte, es würden bereits Kameras bei diesem oder jemand den man kennt vorhanden sein, sollten damit vom Tisch sein. Bitte lassen Sie Sich hier nicht von Ihren Kunden auf die Palme bringen. "

Cheers

But it is consistent with the info that has been revealed by some serious sources I have read until now.

Some leaks in HK & Australia (true ??? ? )

Anyway, the problem will be the quantities ...

Long ago I had read that May 21 or 22nd was the magic date. I don't recall where, but it was a date that I was believing before I called Canon USA. This email from Canon confirms what I heard previously, but who can be sure?

I'm calling B&H twice a day...first thing in the morning, and mid-afternoon Pacific time. The story is never the same, but always interesting. Today, the nice man told me the cameras were already on the street in Japan which meant they're going to be here very soon.:rolleyes:;)

He also opined that there'll be enough units in their first shipment to meet the demand. Since they're not taking orders, I'd have to say he's a clairvoyant.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

Way cool! I will start calling each day also, beginning tomorrow morning. If enough of us do it, they might just release some better info to get us off their backs. Canon should be hit the same way. Shame on Canon for hanging us out to dry this way, I'd expect better in the customer relations area than this.

Opined and clairvoyant? You use a spell checker there? Pretty good! ;)

Anyway, thumbs up for your efforts buddy.

Heck, I was just impressed you know "opined." :) How does one get a moniker around here after a couple of thousand posts? Go off the deep end and wear panties? Hehehehe. I figured my quest for the M3 would end up getting me some kind of "bad" label. ;) which I could enjoy and look back to in a few years when the M4 is announced and the M3 will look like junk (not.)

Anyway, I just wrote Canon ans asked Whaaaaaatttt's UP? I got a pm from someone else here who did the same so I figured I would add to their inbox. I let them know we are holding our breaths until it comes out and the bad public relations from so many hypoxic folks, plus the loss of customers, would not shine a positive light on the release here in the USA. Well, actually I almost begged them for a media release with an update on the M3 and info where they are at right now. I doubt they'll listen, but we should keep trying. The squeaky wheel theory!

Joe

I wrote an email to Canon.

I must admit, I am still hopeful. But I'm an optimist. This is my email... and their response.

My Email to Canon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am a professional photographer who (along with several friends) is
wondering if someone would provide us with some information about the
availability of the 1D Mark III.
To date, Canon appears to be fairly tight-lipped about the actual
availability of the camera, which is creating some confusion on our
parts. The initial press releases said Spring 2007, followed shortly
thereafter by announcements that indicated the camera would be available in May 2007. There are now "rumors" of delays, indicating the camera
won't be available until June or July 2007.
Could you provide me with any information regarding this product and
whether units have already been shipped to the US?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Canon's Response
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Mr. [Omitted]
Thank you for contacting Canon product support, and for your interest in the EOS 1D Mark III. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate
the opportunity to assist you.
The camera should be available within the next few months. We do not
have any information on the delivery time to the Canon Authorized
Dealers. You will have to contact the dealer directly for delivery
information.
Please write to us again if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for choosing Canon.
Sincerely,
[Omitted]
Technical Support Representative
Special Note: Certain issues are very difficult to resolve via email.
If your question remains unanswered after you have received this email,
you may call our special toll-free number for email customers with
message and we will respond as quickly as possible.
What a cop out, a couple of months!!! And then to say ask your local dealer, that is an insult, as if the local dealer can tell us what Canon can't. They don't mention they are selling these in other countries. That response makes me angrier than I was. BS. I will probably get the same response. Arrggghhhh. I better get off before I write something I regret... again.
By the way, I did write him back. I'll let you know if anything comes of it.
