What a cop out, a couple of months!!! And then to say ask your local dealer, that is an insult, as if the local dealer can tell us what Canon can't. They don't mention they are selling these in other countries. That response makes me angrier than I was. BS. I will probably get the same response. Arrggghhhh. I better get off before I write something I regret... again.

That is a form letter. They've probably been sending the same one since PEMA.

I know... I know. I was a little stunned when I read that too. I am hoping... HOPING... he is simply trying to dodge a train here because he also says: "We do not
have any information on the delivery time to the Canon Authorized
Dealers. "

My email in response was a lot more direct. LOL

Have you seen this text appear anywhere else? I haven't... but I have seen several people who were frustrated because they received no response.

I'm just trying to be direct... yet gentle.

It's that old saying about flies and honey.

No, but I've seen enough dismissive form letters in the past to recognize them by their smell.

Lol... yeah, well, maybe. Whether it's a form or was written, they are gonna have a hard time "dancing around" the direct questions in my second email.

:lol::lol:Just watch.

I wish you luck, but don't expect you'll get any meaningful information no matter how directly you probe. If they're not giving the information to their dealers, they're sure as heck not going to give to any of us.

I JUST received this from Canon:

"Dear Joe xxx:

Thank you for your inquiry. We value you as a Canon customer and appreciate the opportunity to assist you. The Mark III camera is scheduled for initial U.S. shipments in Spring.

From what I understand regarding the release date we are looking at a late May to early June release. Because this camera is so new this date may be pushed back until middle-late June. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, and we still hope you will consider this camera when it does hit shelves.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with the EOS-1D Mark III.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

Tim
Technical Support Representative"

Because it is so new they might push back the date? What gives then when they have already released it elsewhere? are foreign markets the beta testers now? Sure seems like it. If not, it is just a matter of production, pushing them out the door into the stores. Yikes! From what I gather from Canon's emails as well as their phone chat with me, the reps are getting their info as they stand around the water cooler.

Well... Hmmmm. It's interesting that he makes a direct reference to June. So we have NorthLight with a reference to 21 May and Canon reps stating it could happen anytime in the month of June.

I don't understand the concept of it "being so new" that they need to push the date back. That **might** imply the cameras themselves are not yet even ready for shipping. However, we probably shouldn't read between the lines too much with that... It could be nothing more than a phone rep trying to answer a question in as few words as possible.

This made laugh:

Consider this camera? It's more accurate to say I would happily walk barefoot over broken glass to get this camera.

okay, that's what my dealer told me today. Canon USA told them that MK III will be shipped to them around 5/30... Maybe just add another rumor...

I just had a look round some UK stores care of camerapricebuster.co.uk.
Epansys have a due data of 2nd of July!
Cameras2U say within 10 days
PhotoSolution have it due in on the 31st May
Most just say spring or April/May do its probably fair to say most don't know! (what a pointless post this is turning into!)

I was a bit shocked to see the battery costs (£100 & £300 for a charger) but I guess they are on a different level to a 20D pack.

I paid in full at the beginning of April (in the UK) - must have been one of only a handful at the time to do so.

I was told yesterday that the first 'special orders' should be ready for collection by Friday of this week. We'll see.

Good luck! (green with envy!)

When I spoke to B&H yesterday, the fellow who told me he thought they'd have plenty of inventory in the initial shipment said this (paraphrasing):

"There's a lot of interest in this camera, but it's very expensive. A lot of the people aking about it probably won't end up buying it."

He really doesn't understand the illness, does he?

I've noticed at least a couple people mention that "they've already released some in other parts of the world" or the like.

My question to you is- are you SURE? Have there been more reports (with evidence) of more people in countries besides the US actually having them? I saw the link several pages back in this thread of the guy that posted a couple pictures of himself with it and pictures from the camera. I also notice that those pictures have since been taken down (unless he just moved them). My gut reaction from the start of that was that he was either one of the unknown testers that wanted to play with the hearts and minds of people on the internet by making them think he was a random person that got one, or that was somehow at one of the shows where they were on display and he somehow managed to get his own card in and out of the camera (or just edited the exif as we've seen people do before).

I have wondered about this supply/demand issue myself, I mean $4500 is a lot of money for a "camera". However, you are correct, Canon has got us slavering to spend that for a Mark III.

Yeah... he bought the 1D3 from a store in Australia. He was not part of the testing group - just a regular consumer. This is confirmed with hard evidence. He may have taken down the pics because the "people" at DPR were flaming him for posting non-professional, non-creative, non-artistic images. (He posted them just to show samples and stated that clearly, but they flamed him on the first few pages of DPR. The last few pages were people defending him. Why Amazon will tolerate the forum behavior, I have no idea.)

Anyway... there are reports of the camera being on shelves in Japan and other Pacific islands, but no hard evidence that I have seen (yet). There are also a few sightings of the camera in the US, but no hard evidence (yet).

Looks like we just have to be patient a little longer.

As far as I have seen. One person in Australia got it. In addition to that one or two in Australia got a call from their shop that they could pickup the camera next day.

David Thomas who is the lucky person that got it posted a new gallery with images http://www.pbase.com/dafed51/more_mk_iii_shots (external link)
