Was in Manhattan yesterday and stopped by B&H to see if anybody new what was up. Talked to three sales reps (camera) and I got the following info.

1. Not even in computer yet
2. No price established (see above)
3. No pre-orders
4. All 3 employees had different delivery times ranging from end of June, soon, late spring.

I then realized that the 5D and Mark II are great cameras and still take photos.

It's just rumors all over the place.... my store told me middle to late MAY. They will probably only get one and i am the one with the deposit..... I just wish there was more concrete info on the release dates per area... stinks actually the way it's handled. It's probably because Canon does not want to quarantee any dates if something happens.

At first I was very anxious to have the camera come out but am becoming VERY disappointed with how Canon is handling the release of the 1DMKIII. They MIGHT be just trying to produce enough cameras so that there is no long waiting period after the initial shipments arrive, but that is probably giving them way too much credit.

They could salvage their reputation somewhat by giving everyone some realistic expectations about when they plan to pull the plug and ship the cameras. Even if that date is later than we would like it would be far more respectful of we consumers that their current disgusting tactics.

Personally I don't expect to see it until early June.

You may very well be correct - it might be June. The one thing I keep telling myself is to remember that Canon originally stated "Spring" and then later, in May. A lot of us here (myself included) are impatient bc the 1D3 is a tool that many of need for one reason or another... however, technically, Canon isn't "late" with the release of the camera.

With that said, I do wish they would provide more information about the pending releases. I personally can't think of any logical business reason for them to be playing this one so close to the vest.

Containing leaks prior to the first official announcement? Sure, ok.
Going into silent mode about the availability of a widely anticipated product? Ummm, not so much.

Great_Cookie,

What was the message you received from Canon Marketing? And what is your situation regarding the new camera? Are you on a pre-order list or something like that?

I actually received a call from Canon Marketing (Singapore) because I called them a month or so back when the hoo-ha from the initial announcment came out (late Feb).

I'm not on any 'Canon' pre-order list or anything (although I have already pre-ordered through my local store), all I did was give them a call; they took my details and then called me back today. To be honest, I'd almost given up on them; I'd forgotten I'd called them myself.

Just to update everyone... It's true.

Over here on one of our local Singaporean boards, someone's just picked up their Mk3.

If it will help I can tell you with certainty that educational institutes can buy the MK III for $3960.

I understood that the discount was for institutions only, there is no discount for teachers, staff, etc. Is that what your information indicated?

They have been notified in the UK that their cameras will be arriving next week. Yahoo. Maybe we will be able to get a few by the 4th of July!

All righty... then it looks like the US should begin receiving the cameras pretty soon though.

It's interesting we aren't hearing much news from the shops though. I've called the few people that I know, and no one knows anything.
