That's what I was going to say too (and not in a bad way). If I had to shoot the event of a lifetime tomorrow, where the memories are more important, I'd simply grab the best hardware I could lay my hands on (and that includes renting it where necessary), familiarize myself with it and go and take the shot. Hardware we can use today is better than toys we can play with tomorrow, nice as though they may be.. :)

There's always something better around the corner, we use what we can get today. The 1DsMk2 is still a VERY credible camera, I shot one alongside the 1DM3 at PMA, actually I was bored waiting for the M3 so I decided to play with whatever else they had. I like it. Typical born and bred 1-series with the legendary AF. I'd use the 5D too, great camera and 12MP with awesome high ISO performance (short of the M3).

That having been said I still hope you get your M3!

Thanks Lightstream, and I totally agree with you.

MANUAL: I tried the two links for the pdf manual and got nothing. On one all I got was porn and on the other at the bottom left it mentions the M3 file and says it was downloaded 293 times but I don't see any link to actually download it. Hmmm.

Joe,
I have just try this one and it works !! :) :) :)

Do you think that the 1D3 is a flower camera ? If you doubt about that, here are a link to photos where you can clarify yourself:

At the risk of sounding totally neurotic, does anyone know of any screen protectors that would fit the Mk3 LCD?

Picking up mine tomorrow, and although I'm fairly certain no dedicated protectors have been released, surely there are other devices with 3" screens that would fit just as well?

Not sure what your point is - nothing there you couldnt take with a 300D. If that was my only interest I doubt i'd buy a Mk3 though I can see the live lcd would be at least useful in composing.

Specially for macro and manual lenses !!

but my point was to compensate the biased sports/photojournalism point of view of this camera. This are the first flower shots I see from 1D3, btw.

I feel it´s a very good polivalent camera

Surely it already has one? All the other cameras in Canon's range do. They just come off and are easily replaced if you scratch it. Any protector you put over the 'screen' is actually just protecting the protector.

I've never bothered adding a second protector and have managed over 100,000 shots between my 20D and 5D without any damage, or indeed marks of any kind. Should the worst happen though, it is quite a cheap part to replace and is a diy job.

Just filling out a price field in the software (and a little humor).

For the ISO comparisons, what did you have C.Fn II -2 set at? 0 or 1? Also, does this in-camera noise reduction also work on RAW files?

I tried it both ways. The in-cam noise reduction didn't do a whole lot. It beat the 5d both ways in my test.

Here is a 3200 ISO shot outside at night

I guess I'll go ahead and post the test pics I took from all 3 cams if anyone's interested. I'm not a big test person so don't grill me about this and that. If anyone has the time to put 100% crops up side by side then go for it.

Great_Cookie;

I think I recall another poster stating that the cover on the LCD was pretty tough and could withstand a lot but it was also meant to be easily replaced if it became damaged. I know they were referring to another Canon camera but I'm sure this LCD cover could also be replaced by the user. They mentioned about $20 as the cost for the replacement so it may not pay to get a protector for the same or even more money.

I'm sure that it does... It's just that with the amount of fingerprints/smudges and oil I get on my current one, I'd feel better if i had a piece of plastic (film) on top of it for piece of mind - scratching the hard plastic protector could ruin your view of the LCD, but changing a $5 protective film is way easier.:p

The LCD covers on the camera are tough. Nothing else is needed. They are not like gameboy/P&S type screens
