I tried it both ways. The in-cam noise reduction didn't do a whole lot. It beat the 5d both ways in my test.

Wow...... the noise difference between the 1D3 and the others is HUGE. I expected a very, very noticeable difference... but wow....

Joe, have you seen these?

1. Open up the 3200 of the 1D3 and the 5D.
2. Maximize the image, then Look at the bottom right hand corner
3. Then go look at the top right corner.

Thanks for posting these HTML. Amazing.

The LCD covers on the camera are tough. Nothing else is needed. They are not like gameboy/P&S type screens

I'm sure... Maybe it's just me being an@l about the whole thing, but personally I just feel more at ease with one on. Something like why some people (like myself) always fit UV filters to our lenses and never take them off.

I know the covers are tough, but they ain't saphire crystal. Hell even with my cellphone which has a saphire crystal screen, i put one on anyway.

But as sandpiper said before, is it REALLY a DIY job? I've never had a 1-series body before, but on my current, it sure ain't look like a DIY job... Maybe someone who's changed one themselves might care to elaborate?

Was at a private party yesterday and had a chance to test the mark III's low light capabilities. Also had an chance to experiment with the 580 EX II and some "shutter dragging" later shooting the live band there.

I'm still amazed at both the low noise, but even more impressed at how accurate the mark III's 63 zone metering seems to be. Shot some of the guests with very bright strobes (used for effects at the party) in the background without having to resort to multi spot metering and the images came out perfect.

Below is an example of an otherwise very boring image that sort of demonstrates an exposure that would be hard with the 5D, without having to be more carefull with the setup.

Ohh yes - the image is ISO3200.

It may be boring, but it's totally jaw-dropping...At 3200 no less.

I am staking-out my dealer tomorrow to intercept my package as soon as it hits the store.

If anyone has the time to put 100% crops up side by side then go for it.

I had a go. Only did iso 800 and 3200 tho.
Image is too big to put in the forum i think so its just a straight link.

Sure, I had myself convinced I could wait on the MKIII. Then I see the photo comparisons to the 5D...

I finally purchased mine from Calumet who I ordered one from at 9.10am on launch day back in February, I was first on their list and they contacted me last week to say that I may get one delivered on Friday.

I had also ordered one from another very reputable supplier who kept in touch with me, however a call last week he told me that they did not get any in the the "first drop" by Canon UK and was "expecting" some next week. I had to take the decision on Friday to take a camera that was in stock at Calumet and ready to be shipped to me.

I will ring my other supplier first thing on Tuesday after the Bank Holiday weekend to cancel my order as this is correct to do so. I could not "risk" Calumet letting this one go on the basis of a hope of delivery next week.

On another note I am loving the camera, off out at "dusk" tonight to test its low light abilities. :)

I did not see if this was already posted it, but Canon has available a patch to solve the problem to display the RAW (.CR2) with Windows Vista:

Chris Gill

No particular reference to Chris Gill here, but his post reminds me of a similar MkIII thread on the FM Forum where 100's of posts talk about nothing much but who is in what delivery order with various camera suppliers:

"I am third on the Tallyn's list",
" I am 6th on the Amazon list",
"I was 2nd one to place the order in the state of Colorado".
'I ordered mine even before the price was published".
"I preordered mine last November"
Etc., etc.....

I also think that retailers are having a bit of a hard time trying to figure out what the real demand is. I suspect that many people have been putting their names on more than one waiting list---perhaps several.
