I'm just curious what everyone thinks. I have been using Aperture for a while now but since Lightroom is out of beta, should I get it? The Photoshop integration sounds nice but how is it as a management/processing application?

its awesome, try the 30 day trial to see if it works for you, but many of us absolutely love it!

They are both good, I prefer Aperture plus with Aperture you can shoot tethered.
The one thing about lightroom is it works better on less powered Macs/PC's

I find many of Lightrooms controls over the top whistles.
RAW conversion in Aperture has improved immensely

I own 2 mac's, but I find Aperture cumbersome or something......I was looking forward to trying Lightroom - I have the 30 day demo and have processed a few images with it, and my initial impressions are not good. I find the interface too tight - I find the way I view the image when developing it is not as "free' as when using ACR. Im not sure if you will get me on that one, but its not as tight and restricting. I really want to give Lightroom a chance, but its not looking good so far.

I agree with your feeling on Aperture, for me it's all the power it needs. But, I have worked with it on a a top end MacPro and the 24" iMac with 2 gigs of ram and it's smooth.

AND! i agree on your feelings of lightroom, I'd rather adjust in ACR and then into Photoshop.

Perhaps you should wait for CS3 then.

As for tethered shooting, I believe that Lightroom can be configured to import as you shoot.

it is ACR, so I'm not sure I guet that at all. If all you use it for is a RAW converter, then stick to bridge.

Yeah, I find Lightroom seems to run so much slower than Bridge, and I can do all the same things in bridge (such as labelling and rating photos) as in Lightroom, and its quicker. For that reason, I personally see no benefit to using Lightroom

it does a lot more than that ;)

if its running slow, that probably means your computer isn't up to date or your settings aren't correct.

Not my computer.....

I run a 2.0 Ghz Macbook with 2GB of Ram, that should suffice....it just doesn't really do THAT much more to justify it. I really do want to give it a chance, but i'm just not getting it!

Also...correct me if im wrong.....but I dont see a place in Lightroom to batch process a bunch of RAW's into jpegs? I can only create a web gallery in HTML or Flash?

EDIT - I think I just found it......select all your files in the "Library" tab, then go to File-export- and go from there.......I think thats it

Export is what you're looking for. Select what you want, hit Export, and then set the file type/quality/size.

I voted personal preference. I don't have any experience with Aperture to determine whether or not it's a better program. I will say that I now prefer LR over everything else I've tried. I haven't used DPP all week. ;)

I was strictly ACR before, so Lightroom affords me some more features. I like that you don't have to send all your images through photoshop.

If you use bridge you dont have to run through photoshop. Bridge opens ACR without using PS
